Conservatory Condensation: Causes and Fixes
Condensation forms when warm, moist air hits a cold surface. In a conservatory, the coldest surface is usually the roof, which is why glass and polycarbonate roofs so often drip on cold mornings.
Everyday fixes
- Open trickle vents or a window for a short while each day.
- Avoid drying washing in the conservatory.
- Keep the room gently heated in cold weather instead of letting it go icy.
- A dehumidifier helps in a damp room.
The long-term fix
These steps help, but they don't change the cold roof. An insulated tiled roof does. A Nu-Look roof reaches a U-value of 0.14 W/m²K, so the inside surface stays far warmer than glass or polycarbonate. It also includes insulated plasterboard with an internal vapour control layer.
Leaks or condensation?
If water appears around joints and seals, or only after rain, it may be a leak, not condensation. Either way, a survey will show what's going on.
