Tiled Conservatory Roofs: Five Common Myths
Most people we visit have heard something that put them off a tiled roof. Here are the five worries we hear most, and the facts.
"It'll be too heavy for my conservatory"
Tapco tiles weigh only about 12kg per square metre once installed, far lighter than traditional roof tiles. Before any work starts, a structural survey checks that your frames, footings and brickwork can take the new roof.
"It'll make the room dark"
On average the loss of light is small: around 5% when replacing polycarbonate and around 11% for glass. Most light comes in through the windows and doors, and the new white ceiling reflects it without the glare. You can also add Velux roof windows.
"It won't really be any warmer"
A Nu-Look roof reaches a U-value of 0.14 W/m²K, compared with around 1.7 W/m²K for a typical conservatory roof. That's the same insulation value as the rest of your home.
"I'll lose ceiling height"
In most cases there's no loss of ceiling height at all. Your surveyor will confirm this for your conservatory before you commit.
"It'll take weeks and wreck the house"
We aim to have your conservatory watertight within a day. The build usually takes 3–5 working days on average, with around 7 for larger or more extensive works. Plastering and electrics follow, and in the vast majority of cases everything is finished within two weeks.
